Internet Technologies of the New Generation

researches in the area of computer networks and internet technologies in Russia, developement of the most breakthrough computer networks technologies of the new generation

Applied Research Center for Computer Networks (ARCCN)

Applied Research Center for Computer Networks (ARCCN) is the first Russian research center created to develop technologies and products for computer networks of the new generation. Since 2012, ARCCN is a resident of Skolkovo Foundation (IT-cluster).

ARCCN’s main priority is to conduct researches in the area of computer networks and internet technologies in Russia, as well as to discover and develop the most breakthrough computer networks technologies of the new generation.

Two main research directions of ARCCN are Software-Defined Networks (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV).

ARCCN today:

  • The only Competency Center of SDN in Russia;
  • The “growing point” for SDN researches in Russia;
  • Transfer support for SDN technologies in Russia;
  • Training of qualified stuff for SDN R&D;
  • National pilot area for research and development in the field of SDN.

In addition to R&D, ARCCN is engaged in various demos and tests of the effectiveness of new technologies for the challenges of industry and business, with a special Testing Center created in Center for this purpose.

ARCCN implements joint projects in the field of network technologies with Rostelecom, Intel, Voentelekom, Huawei, EMC, Rosatom, Sberbank, etc.

ARCCN had successfully launched two startups: NFWare, which develops a virtual services library for network operators, and WiMark Systems, which develops a vendor–agnostic platform for managing Wi-Fi networks and devices.

ARCCN solutions have been successfully tested in the laboratories of Voentelekom and Rostelecom.

Important events:

2012:

  • ARCCN becomes a resident of Skolkovo Foundation (IT-cluster).
  • Memorandum of cooperation is signed with Open Networking Laboratory (ON.Lab), the joint laboratory of Stanford and Berkeley Universities.
  • The first trainings of Russian specialists in ON.Lab Laboratory (USA) and the first school of new generation network technologies in Russia.

2013:

  • Rostelecom signed a contract with ARCCN to design and develop the experimental segment of a cloud platform for data-centers based on Software-Defined Networks.
  • ARCCN created a tools prototype for network resources and data flows management based on the SDN-approach using distributed network operating systems. The R&D was performed under the federal grant of Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
  • ARCCN initiated Consortium of Russian Universities for the new generation computer networks technologies development.(SDN Consortium). 14 members entered the SDN Consortium.

2014:

  • SDN and NVF technologies named among the top priority directions announced by the Russian Government.
  • ARCCN had successfully launched two startups: NFWare, which develops a virtual services library for network operators, and WiMark Systems, which develops a vendor–agnostic platform for managing Wi-Fi networks and devices.
  • First Russian SDN controller RunOS was developed with no world analogues in terms of performance.
  • The First International Science and Technology Conference «Modern Networking Technologies: SDN & NFV – The Next Generation of Computational Infrastructure» took place on the initiative of ARCCN. Among its key speakers were representatives of well-known R&D centers from the US, EU, Japan and Russia.
